We are a very dynamic and active local group. We organise a variety of events each year.
Walks
We organise around 50 walks throughout the year. These are usually held on Thursdays or at the weekend. Non-members are welcome to try them out.

Directions: Take the M2 to junction 6, then A251 to Faversham, where it meets the A2(T), then turn left. After 1 mile turn right at roundabout just past Ospringe onto the B2045 to Oare Village. Turn left at the T junction in front of the boat yard, then right into a narrow road just behind the Village pub (Three Mariners), and proceed to the Reserve car park at the end (signposted Harty Ferry). Car parking fee of £3.50 at weekends, can be paid in advance via RingGo. Please note-the postcode above takes you to the Three Mariners pub.
Habitat: Grazing marsh with freshwater dykes, open water scrapes, reedbeds, saltmarsh and seawall.
Attractions: The Reserve has pathways around the edge of the marshes and the Swale banks, including some hides. Winter can be good for waders and occasional raptors. Spring and autumn are good for migrating waders and passerines. Breeding birds in the reed beds include reed and sedge warblers and bearded tits.
Amenities: There are no facilities at the Reserve, but at weekends between April and November the toilets at the nearby Oare Gunpowder Works Country Park may be available. Toilets also available at the superstore.

We generally meet twice a month (Sept.-May) on the first Thursday at 2pm or the fourth Wednesday at 7.30pm.

The Photography Competition is Back
Have you taken any great wildlife photographs in the past year? If so the annual photography competition is for you. Full details are set out in the rules. In brief:
- Photos taken in the period 1 April 2025 to 30 April 2026 are eligible. They will be judged in five categories. Entries should be sent to the organiser Ian Taylor(competitions@rspbguildford.org.uk) with the required information detailed in the rules no later than 10 May 2026.
- The judging of the entries will take place by vote of the members present at the AGM on 27 May 2026 following completion of the formal business of the meeting.
- Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each of the five categories. The Koniotes Trophy will be awarded to the photo voted best overall.
Coach trips
In severe weather, a trip may be cancelled. Check with Sue Losson.
A few seats are available free of charge for accompanied young people (age 12-18). Contact Sue Losson to book a free seat.

Fundraising events
Each year our group raises large sums for the RSPB. These range from stalls at local events, jumble sales, plant sale and more.
Social events
We arrange several social events each year. This is a way for people to get to know each other better and are usually only open to members of our local group.
Holidays
Two holiday trips are organised each year. Usually we have one longer one in the spring and a shorter one in the autumn. Participation in holiday trips is restricted to our members.

We sometimes arrange bird ID sessions and other special events. See individual event for details.
